Madagascar - A Little Wild

One of the most recent shows I supervised, "Madagascar - A little Wild" was great fun and the second time I got to work on a Madagascar franchise (I had worked on season 2 and 3 of Penguins of Madagascar in New Zealand too).

As is the rock-and-the-hard-place with supervising, often you don't get time to model, as most time is spent managing a team, reviewing assets, and going to meetings. If you are lucky to start an asset you likely won't be lucky enough to finish it, and other times you might spruce up a submitted asset to push the design a bit further.

In this album are a collection of some assets I actually managed to get to model, sometimes due to scheduling, when there were too many assets for the team, and also as I was new to Mainframe at the time, an opportunity to learn their pipeline in a practical setting.

It should be noted, the above takes are the 'approved' takes that we can request from the studio, which only allow for Surfacing takes. Wireframes and greyscale are unfortunately not permitted, and so the artist name on some takes you will see, are actually our surfacing artists that were assigned the surfacing task.

A trailer for the show (the first episodes of Season 1, so you will see a few of the assets I have in this album pop up through the clips)

This is the main habitat where our little guys live. The first set to be built for the show, and having to factor for a lot of different story points that would eventually arise over the 50+ episodes that we made.

During the video you will see a lot of other angles (and a different time of day) for the habitat I built.
This clip introduces Lucia the Sloth who is very cool and go-with-the-flow. It was fun to help bring this one to life with my team.

This guy was a fun one. He shows up in a museum as part of a display in the prehistoric area of the zoo. He is meant to have a bit of a taxidermy appearance.

This was a fun one. Usually 'props' that are this anatomical/appealing might try to squeeze through our character artists, but they were very busy so we split the 4 or 5 unique characters among our props/sets artists, and I picked up this one myself :)

Here is a closer view, since the surfacing submit doesn't show it very close up.

A production still of Madagascar. I did not model these monkeys, but as supervisor overseeing all aspects of the asset model builds (characters/props/sets) was part of the process, and these were two very cute characters to help bring to life
