So this is a bit of a throwback to my first studio, and one of the last pieces I contributed towards before I left. About 12 or 13 years ago now!
We had started pre-production on a movie and it was a bit of a dream to even be involved in the very preliminary stages of.
We had gotten to the point of anim testing, (test seen here are by Peter Monga, who knocked it out of the park) however the film was shelved soon after, I'm not too sure why, and I had moved to another studio shortly after. It seemed an amazingly unique and appealing feature would go to waste.
Fast-forward to years later, I had recently moved to Canada, and I find out that the film was proceeding, and from the trailer, looking amaazinggggg. So happy for them having moved ahead with this film. It's a beautiful piece of work to look at.
And for context, the film released in 2019, and I've read articles stating that the movie from go-to-woah was a 20 year journey for some of the key players.
As you can see from the trailer the character design were fairly locked for the main character even back in pre-production, and while this model was only used in pre-production and a new/final geo was created for the film (seeing small changes in the appearance like the horns, the nostrils, feet etc, and I'm sure changes made under-the-hood that help facilitate a flexible rig, it's great to see the core of the creature is still alive and well.
